You are an integral part of our library system. The simplest and most direct way to show your support is to visit the library and use our services. Increasing usage and circulation rates establishes a clear pattern and sends a strong signal to community leaders about the importance of our library system and the value it brings to Spokane.

Whether you’re able to help with volunteering, donating books, donating funds, or by voicing your support with the Mayor and City Council – it’s all important. Let’s work together to build a strong, sustainable library for everyone.

Please also sign up for the library’s email newsletter so you can stay informed about library services and issues.

Thanks for your interest in supporting the library!

Support or join the Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library support the library in so many ways.

  • Support Summer Reading for kids and teens with programs and book giveaways
  • Support the Spokane Is Reading program, which brings a different author to town each year
  • Make special equipment purchases (recent examples include AWE Early Learning Computer Stations for young children)
  • Support staff training
  • And more!

The Friends raise money through annual book sales, Buy the Book – the bookstore in the lobby of the Downtown Library, and memberships from library users like you.

You can join the Friends of the Library, donate materials for the sale or volunteer with them.

Contact the Mayor and City Council

The Spokane Public Library is a general fund department.

City_of_Spokane_SealOur budget is part of the city’s general fund and is set by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. When you let the Mayor and City Council members know how important the library is to you it helps support our budget.
