1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Spokane Public Library’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a fun and free way to start your child on the path to learning success! Any child ages 0-5 years can participate. Just follow these steps:
1. Set a goal of reading 1,000 books before kindergarten.
2. Get ready to track your reading: Pick up a reading log at your favorite branch, print your own log or download the app on your smartphone.
3. Read, read, & repeat: New book, same book over and over, or StoryTime!, it all counts toward the goal of reading 1,000 books.
4. 100-Book Milestones: You completed the log! Great! Grab another and keep going!
5. Once you’ve read 1,000 Books: Great work! Come to the library and receive a certificate of completion.
6. Don’t stop at 1,000: Make reading a lifelong habit!
If you read just one book a night, you will read 365 books in a year. In two years, the number will grow to 730. In the third year, you will surpass the goal at 1,095 books. If you consider that most children start kindergarten at age 5 or 6, you have more time than you think and it’s never too late to start. Ask our friendly staff for suggestions — we’re here to help you on your journey to 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten!
